Classic shaped glasses and sunglasses from square to round

The definition of classic vintage eyewear is not really clear. Some people would call a round pair of glasses classic, for others oval glasses or square sunglasses are more classic. On the other hand, other eyewear lovers would classify Panto frames as classic. The shape of the spectacles is the main criterion for definition in all of these cases.
In addition to the shape of the glasses, there is also another variable that can be used to describe a pair of glasses as being “classics”, and that is, the colour. Black glasses, brown glasses, gold glasses and silver glasses are of course more likely to be classified in the “classics” category than yellow or pink glasses.
The old vintage eyewear collection by Giorgio Armani is the best example of classic eyewear models. It contains timeless glasses and sunglasses in discreet colours, which can often be worn by both women and men; classic unisex glasses, so to speak.
So are the old vintage glasses from Alfred Dunhill. These are stylishly elegant and very much kept apart, despite the luxurious materials. Classic understatement glasses for true connoisseurs.
In addition to the entire collections of Giorgio Armani and Alfred Dunhill, individual models by Persol Ratti and Ray-Ban should not go unmentioned.
The old Persol Ratti sunglasses 649 and 714 worn by Steve McQueen are of course absolute classics. The same applies to the old Ray-Ban USA Wayfarers from Bausch&Lomb. These models are not only classic in terms of their shape, but also in terms of their overall impression (image).
With the old Steve McQueen sunglasses by Persol Ratti and the old USA Wayfarer sunglasses, you can also explain the colour as a characteristic for classic glasses, because black vintage glasses are nowadays much rarer to find than vintage sunglasses in brown or tortoise shell.
The reason for this is quite simple.
Black glasses and black sunglasses were and still are more in demand than any other colour, because black is a classic colour and can be combined in many different ways.
As early as in the 70s and 80s, black frames were the best sellers. Consequently, the black frames were often sold out during these times.
You will find today that after more than 30 years, of the still unworn remainders of old vintage sunglasses, the black varieties are often no longer available, because they were already sold decades ago. This results in the sometimes enormous price differences for black vintage glasses today, compared to the identical eyewear model in a different colour, according to the principle of supply and demand.
That’s why black Persol Ratti vintage sunglasses models 58230, 69202, 69218 and 69262 cost three times more than other colour versions today. The same applies to old Ray-Ban USA originals from Bausch&Lomb. Wayfarer, Clubmaster and Balorama models are much more in demand and more expensive in black than in any other colour.
It can be said that classic glasses and sunglasses are predominantly mainstream glasses for everyone and are therefore naturally sought after by many spectacle wearers.
Have a look at our range of old classic vintage glasses and sunglasses and you will see that the black classics are often no longer available. But if there is black eyewear, then seize the opportunity quickly as demand is high and supply is unfortunately very low.
