Chrome Hearts Eyewear – A Luxury Universe of Its Own

Owning a pair of Chrome Hearts glasses or sunglasses means owning something truly exclusive and exceptional. This is not just an accessory—it’s a bold statement from a luxury brand that thrives on rebellion, defies trends, and refuses to conform to traditional fashion cycles. Chrome Hearts frames aren't available online and never follow seasonal collections. Instead, the brand stands for raw authenticity and unfiltered independence, drawing from biker culture and infused with punk and metal ideologies—provocative, real, and respected across all genres.

Wild Creativity Meets Craftsmanship

Chrome Hearts was born in the late '80s from the fortunate collaboration of three unconventional minds: Richard Stark, John Bowman, and Leonard Kamhout. Originally designing unique leather jackets for the Harley-Davidson scene, the trio combined Stark’s design vision, Bowman’s craftsmanship, and Kamhout’s mastery in silverwork. The result? A radical fusion of fashion, metal, and subculture.

A Lucky Break - And the Sex Pistols

The brand’s breakthrough came in 1988 when the trio was hired to design costumes for a B-movie. Among the actors was the girlfriend of Steve Jones, guitarist of the Sex Pistols. Jones became a fan and wore the pieces on stage. Stark then named the brand after the film’s working title: Chrome Hearts.

When Guns N’ Roses began wearing their accessories, Chrome Hearts was catapulted into the spotlight, coining a whole new genre: glam-punk luxury.

The Anti-Designer Takes the Sterling Throne

In 1994, Richard Stark bought out his partners and began running the brand with his wife, Laurie Lynn. 

Stark doesn’t consider himself a fashion designer, but rather an “anti-designer” driven by pure creative will:

“There’s no game being played for the fashion world. To me, Chrome Hearts has got nothing to do with the fashion world. We don’t have any seasons. I make things when I wanna make them because I wanna make them.”

From Sunglasses to Private Jets — And a Designer Plunger

Under Stark’s direction, Chrome Hearts evolved into a full-blown lifestyle. Rejecting flashy luxury but still outrageously decadent, the brand creates everything from eyewear to entire private jet interiors—even a toilet plunger for €2,000.

The term “hardcore luxury” might be the best way to describe this genre-bending aesthetic.

Karl Lagerfeld and Chrome Hearts – An Unexpected Affair

Could anything be more different than the polished elegance of Karl Lagerfeld and the raw edge of Chrome Hearts? It was like a rapier meeting a sterling silver knuckle-duster. And yet, this contrast sparked a creative alliance.

Lagerfeld first visited the Chrome Hearts store on L.A.’s Upper East Side in the late ’90s and admired the brand’s unapologetic independence. He became one of their most devoted collectors, furnishing entire homes with Chrome Hearts pieces—and, naturally, wearing their eyewear.

Lagerfeld’s favorite model was the Shaft—a bold gold-plated frame with wooden temples and subtly mirrored lenses, featured on the cover of Chrome Hearts Magazine Vol. 6 (2005). The Lagerfeld Glasses as the Origin of Our Chrome Hearts Collection

What captivated us about Chrome Hearts eyewear was its pure unpredictability. Yes, they use 925 sterling silver, 18kt gold, hand-carved ebony, buffalo horn, Japanese zyl acetate, and hand-stitched leather. But materials alone don’t define identity. Many luxury eyewear brands boast high-quality titanium and celebrity endorsements.

Chrome Hearts, however, creates a lifestyle through iconic symbols—ornate crosses, fleur-de-lis, daggers, gothic engravings.

Details that convey obsession, as Karl Lagerfeld once put it.

Inspiration for a New Generation of Eyewear Designers

Worn by countless celebrities, including Bella Hadid—who collaborated closely with the brand—Chrome Hearts has become a source of inspiration itself. One look at the glamorous model she wore makes it clear: Chrome Hearts x Bella Hadid (2018)

JMM added a new dimension to the Chrome Hearts formula: extreme scarcity. Every piece is numbered and tells a story—creating emotion and a sense of belonging. Just like Chrome Hearts.

Cher and Kim Kardashian showcased this spirit at the 2025 Met Gala in New York. Wearing Chrome Hearts ensembles among gowns from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Thom Browne, Miu Miu, Versace, Prada, and Valentino, they still managed to steal the spotlight—while staying true to a brand that wants nothing to do with the fashion industry.
