Persol: Ratti glasses of Dolce Vita

(*per sol = for the sun)
Vintage Persol eyewear can be recognized by its “Ratti” imprint. The name RATTI stands for the factory in Turin where Persol eyewear was produced between 1917 and 1995. The eyewear manufacturer Luxottica took over the Persol brand in 1995 and has been manufacturing Persol eyewear since then without the Ratti logo. Only Persol Ratti eyewear is real Persol vintage eyewear.
The legendary 649, 714, 58230, 69218 or 23/91 models belong to the old Persol Ratti sunglasses.
Marcello Mastroianni wore the classic Persol 649 Ratti sunglasses in “Divorce Italian Style” (1961), Steve McQueen made the Persol 714 Ratti folding sunglasses his trademark in “The Thomas Crown Affair” (1968), Bruce Lee wore the Persol 23/91 Ratti pilot sunglasses on the cover of “Golden Movie News” (No. 64, 1977), Don Johnson often carried out investigations in Miami Vice (1984) wearing his black Persol 69218 Ratti men’s sunglasses and, sitting on his motorcycle in the movie “Terminator 2” (1991), Arnold Schwarzenegger made the sporty Persol 58230 Ratti sunglasses legendary.
These five character examples alone show the variety of models of the old Persol Ratti sunglasses, which have become coveted by collectors.
