Hugo Boss is one of the few fashion brands that used to exclusively produce men’s sunglasses. When the company decided to add eyewear and sunglasses to its product range in the early 1990s, Boss looked for the best cooperation partner that could be found anywhere in the world – namely OPTYL.
At that time Optyl had already been producing Carrera sunglasses since the 1950s, which were made of the Optyl material of the same name. This experience and competence was also incorporated by Optyl in the production of the Boss sunglasses, meaning the old Boss glasses were even made of the extraordinarily durable Optyl plastic. Therefore, all old vintage Boss sunglasses carry the imprint “Hugo Boss by CARRERA” as well as the Optyl sign.
The quality and price of Boss glasses were in the premium segment and the design was deliberately kept “casually elegant” (casual business), so that male customers could wear their glasses on any occasion.
Due to the incredible wearing comfort (thanks to the light Optyl material), the discreet colouring and the classic designs, the old Boss originals have remained popular men’s sunglasses until today. The timeless premium style can also be recognised by the fact that among the old Boss by CARRERA glasses, there are no “maverick” models that stand out in particular.
The entire old glasses collection from Boss is very solid and structured. Since Optyl could no longer keep up with the cheap competition from East Asia in the mid-90s due to the enormous demand for quality, the production of glasses was abruptly stopped. This also led to the surprising end of the Boss-CARRERA cooperation, which meant the men’s glasses from Boss were only produced for a very few years.
This explains why vintage Boss glasses and sunglasses are very rarely found today. We are therefore very happy to be able to offer these timeless premium glasses for men in our shop.
It should also be noted that the men’s sunglasses sometimes also suit women wonderfully, which actually makes these old originals unisex sunglasses.
